December Storms Trigger State of Emergency, Anti-Price Gouging Rules for Rental Properties

Posted By: David Cordero

The recent wave of storms that have hit California have triggered anti-price gouging regulations statewide that include rent increases, advertised rents, and the sale of good and services. Details can be found on the Governor's Office of Emergency Services website.

Rental housing providers are reminded that it is unlawful for any person, business, or other entity, to increase the rental price advertised, offered, or charged for housing, to an existing or prospective tenant, by more than 10 percent. This includes properties exempt from statewide rent control.

The state of emergency declaration affects Orange and Riverside Counties through January 23, 2026.
