Rent Registry Creating Issues in Santa Ana

Posted By: Chip Ahlswede Legislative Affairs, Advocacy Updates,

Santa Ana's recently rolled out rent registry has created a great deal of problems for property owners - and tenants alike.

The registry requires all rental property owners to submit all the information related to the leases they hold with their residents - as well as the name, phone, e-mail and preferred language of everyone living in a unit - whether they are on the lease or not - and certified by the owner under penalty of perjury.

This overreach has created a great deal of uneasiness among tenants as to why this information is being collected - and among owners as to why all this information is being requested.

AAOC penned an Op Ed on this in the OC Independent this week - an are working to get additional coverage.
