The city council will consider creating a rent registry, as well as mandatory reporting to the city by landlords of any 3-Day notice served.

The Costa Mesa City Council will consider the establishment of a citywide rent registry at its meeting on March 17, 2026. Additionally, it will consider amending its Tenant Protection Act to require that all 3-Day Pay Rent or Quit Notices be copied to the city housing department. The stated purpose is to "collect data on at-fault evictions."
